Going with a gently used option will let you spend your saved-up money on upgrades or keep it in the bank for a rainy day.

Decreased Down Payment & Monthly Rate

Most people finance their vehicle purchase when buying from a dealership, since very few people have the ready cash to plunk down for a vehicle, even if it’s used. Financing makes your purchase affordable and low-pressure, giving you plenty of time to pay the balance off.

Because the sticker price of a used truck is lower, the down payments and the monthly rate you pay will also be lower. This means that your payments each month won’t eat up as much of your budget, so you’re not going to have to tighten your belt so much to afford your vehicle.

High-End Models Become Affordable

You’ll instantly gain far more choices when you choose to go with a pre-owned vehicle over a new one. You can seek out vehicles that were released several years ago, but are still in great condition because their owners didn’t drive them much and maintained them well. Depreciation levels off over time, though. That means that when you buy the same traded-in model for yourself at a discount, you’re also saving all that money the initial buyer spent that was lost to depreciation. Your used truck will maintain much of the value it has when you buy it, particularly if you keep it in good repair.

Cheaper Insurance & Registration

When you buy pre-owned, you’re also going to save yourself a pretty penny on insurance because of the decreased value. For the insurance company, this means that any accidents and damage will be much cheaper to repair, so they can give you a lower rate.

Registration with the DMV also tends to be cheaper for used trucks, so this is another place you can save money. Use the cash you saved on those fees to upgrade your vehicle instead!
